Google Earth – How to Search Location on Google Map | Google Earth Search

Google Earth is a computer program that offers a 3D representation of the Earth based on satellite imagery. The program provides maps of the Earth by the superimposition of images gotten from satellite imagery, aerial photography and the GIS data onto a 3D globe. This makes users see cities and houses at various angles. Google Earth makes users search for a location, addresses for some countries, and enter coordinates.

The user can navigate Google Earth using their keyboard or mouse. The program can be downloaded on any smartphone or tablet and be controlled by using a touch screen or stylus. Users can use the program to add their own data, making them available through different sources, like forums or blogs. Google map location can show various kinds of images overlaid on the surface of the earth and it is also a Web Map Service partner.

The Google Earth has been seen by some, as a threat to privacy and national insecurity, leading to the program being banned in so many countries. Google Earth was originally created by Keyhole Inc. They found the company on a mountain base view in 2001.

Furthermore, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and In-Q-Tel. Then in addition to smaller capital from Nvidia and Sony. Keyhole created the program under the name Keyhole Earth Viewer. They sold the product for uses in fields such as real estate, defense, urban planning, and intelligence.

Google Earth Free

The Google earth is free and all google users can easily use the service even without downloading it. However, you can as well download the Google earth app or program on your mobile phone, PC system, laptop etc. Furthermore, the app is very active and it has over one billion downloads. More so, the programs works very well on the Android and iOS devices.

How to Search Location on Google Earth – Google Map

Here is a simple step you can use to search any location using the earth program.

  1. First open the service or app on your device.
  2. Look at the top left corner to locate the Google map search box.
  3. Type in a location you want to view.
  4. Then press the enter button to initiate the view.

The earth will then zoom into the location you want and you can zoom in or out if yo wish.

Google Earth Imagery – Google Earth Search

Digital globe displays imaginary images. It also displays the planet’s surface using a single composited image from a far distance. After zooming in enough, the imagery transits into different imagery update images of the same area with finer detail, this varies in date and time from one area to the other.

The imagery is redeemed from satellites or aircraft. Prior to the launch of NASA and the USGS’s Landsat 8 satellite, Google depends partially on imagery from Landsat 7. Which has a hardware malfunction that left diagonal gaps in images in 2013.

Google is using data mining to resolve the issue, providing what was as a successor to the Blue Marble image of Earth. This is on a single large image of the entire planet. This is by combining multiple sets of imagery taken from Landsat 7 to remove clouds and diagonal gaps, creating a single “mosaic” image. Google now make use of Landsat 8 to provide imagery in a higher quality and with greater frequency.

Google Earth Imagery Resolution

Imagery resolution starts from 15 meters of resolution to 15 centimetres. Most of the areas in Google Earth are only shown in 2D aerial imagery. Although, 3D images of some areas are available, but mostly in major cities. For the residue of the earth, the program uses digital elevation model (DEM). NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), collate this data,  laying the 2D aerial imagery on top.

Launching in version 5.0, Google Historical Imagery; this allows users to view earlier imagery. By clicking the clock icon in the toolbar, that opens a time slider, this marks the time of available imagery from the past.

Google Earth Features

Google Earth has many features that allow their users to learn about specific places. These are includes “layers”, and it includes different forms of media, also photos and videos. Some layers include tours, which guides the user between specific places in a set order. Users can create layers, by using the Keyhole Markup Language. Also known as KML, users can also use it to create customized layers.

Locations are marked with Placemarks and users use folders to organize them. For example, a user can decide to use Placemarks to list interesting landmarks around the globe. Then provide descriptions with photos and videos. Also, users can view by clicking on the Placemarks while viewing the new layer in the app.

New integration

Google Earth added a new integration with Wikipedia and Panoramio in December 2006. As for the Wikipedia layer, entries are for coordinates through the Cord templates. There is also a community-layer from Wikipedia-World. They use more coordinates, and different forms are in the display and different languages that support it than the built-in Wikipedia layer.

The Panoramio layer feature pictures are upload from Panoramio users and insert in Google Earth on user-provided location data. In addition to flat images, Google Earth also contains a layer for user-submitted panoramic photos, passable in a similar way to Street View.

Mores so, the program contains multiple features that allow the user to monitor any current event. In 2007, Google began to offer users the ability to monitor traffic data provided by Google Traffic in real time. This is based on information obtained from the GPS-identified locations of cell phone users

Controversy and criticism

A number of people criticize the software and also unusual interest groups.  This includes national officials, as being an invasion of privacy or posing a threat to national security. The typical quarrel is that the software offers information about military or other negative installations. Terrorists can use the medium to carry out their illicit activities.

Since 2007 the use of Earth app program has not been in place in Iran and Sudan. This is because of the United States government export restrictions. They block the use of the program in Morocco since 2006 by Maroc Telecom. This is a major service provider in the country.

Some citizens may show concerns over aerial information illustrating their properties and residences spreading freely. Relatively few authorities actually guarantee the individual’s right to privacy. As against to the state’s right to secrecy, this is an evolving point. Being aware of these critiques, for a time, Google had Area 51. It is highly visible and easy to find in Nevada as a default Placemark when installing Google earth.

Google Earth and its Place in the Development of Digital Globe

In the academic field, there is an increase in attention to the program and its place in the development of digital globes. In fact, the International Journal of Digital Earth features multiple articles. Furthermore, evaluating and comparing the development of Google Earth.

Again it is different when comparing it to others like professional, governmental and scientific platforms. Google Earth’s role in the enlargement of “earth observing media” has been a success story. Leon Gurevitch, in particular, has tested the role of the program in shaping a shared cultural awareness.

This is regarding climate change and humanity’s capacity to treat the earth as an engineering object. Gurevitch narrates this interface between earth representations on the program. Then also, sharing the cultural imaginary of geoengineering as “Google Warming”.
